Artist Statement

Jada Cropper

In my art I choose to study the animals around us and how we impact them. I want to show people different aspects of the animals. I want to show their beauty in a simple portrait, but some portraits of mine shead a dark side of their lives. For example the portrait of the put bull has a chain linked fence in the foreground. This simple detail is meant to represent the barrier that people claim there should be between the whole breed. Or another piece of work is of a racehorse. Most people from the stands or the television screens don't see what some of these horses go through. Behind the scenes they are drugged and whipped. Many portraits are drawn in graphite pencils, charcoal pencils, or painted with acrylic paint. In each of these mediums I use details to my advantage. I want my audience to look at a peice more closely, and look at the deeper emotion in my animals eyes. I want them to see and feel what they are going through.
